Josh Gowling celebrates a goal for Hereford in January 2019 |
He left by mutual consent in February with Hereford's season tailing off after the televised FA Cup first-round home tie against Portsmouth.
Gowling joined the Bulls first as a player in December 2018 before being appointed as interim manager in January 2020.
He led Hereford to the FA Trophy final in 2021 when they were beaten 3-1 by underdogs Hornchurch.
He left Hereford in 15th place, eight points above the bottom three and eight points from the top eight. He's now at Darlington, who are rock bottom of the league, and played out a 1-1 draw with Gloucester City on Saturday.
Writing a column for The Non-League Paper, which can be read in full here, he said: "Alun Armstrong did a fantastic job here as manager before me and I have to pay homage to him.
"Unfortunately, in football, things come to an end, just like it did for me at Hereford.
"The period I’ve had away since leaving Edgar Street in February has been a real blessing.
"I’ve been able to spend quality time with my family and also go into observe at other football clubs while evaluating my previous job. I needed a bit of a break to recalibrate and I feel I am a better manager now for that."
