Lucy Letby chants were allegedly heard at the Deva Stadium on Tuesday |
Letby, who was born and grew up in Hereford, was convicted of killing seven babies at the Countess of Chester hospital.
She tried to kill six others and was given a whole-life order. She is the most prolific child serial killer in modern British history
Chester have said the chants were “appalling”.
The club said they would review CCTV footage to identify those involved, the BBC reports.
Chester lost 2-1 to Hereford thanks to second half goals from Lassana Mendes and a rocket of a shot from Aurio Teixeira.
Some fans were reportedly heard referencing Letby while taunting the Hereford supporters, in what the club described as "reprehensible behaviour".
Vice chairman Jim Green said: "We are ashamed to be associated with anyone responsible for the chant and will be reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved and take the appropriate action.
"It is reprehensible behaviour and demonstrates a deeply concerning lack of compassion, understanding and decency."
Cheshire Police said officers present at Tuesday’s game had not heard
the chant in question and that the force was awaiting an official
complaint before investigating.
