Jack Evans celebrating his wondergoal with Orrin Pendley in Hereford’s 4-2 away victory at Boston
Jack Evans' new manager has heaped praised on the youngster after a succesful debut for FC Halifax Town in the National League.
Evans scored as Halifax beat Bromley 2-0 in the season opener and was then named in the Non-League Paper's team of the week.
Evans, who left Hereford this summer despite being offered a deal, teamed up with fellow debutant Ryan Galvin to score the opener, reports the Halifax Courier.
Boss Chris Millington: "The biggest accolade I can give them is how well they combined for the first goal.
"Ryan created the space for himself to be able to slide a really well-weighted pass in-behind the Bromley defence, and it's Jack Evans steaming forward from midfield to get on the end of it, but not only that but what a finish, such a cool finish."
"That little 10, 15 seconds of play really highlights the wider impact both players had on the game."
The Courier also reported Manager Chris Millington was excited about bringing Evans to the Shay.
"We were aware of him last season, we knew about his qualities, we knew about how well he’d done at Hereford and the accolades he got come the end of the season," he said.
"He’s incredibly hard-working, very competitive, a good communicator, a good presence in the group and offers that versatility of being able to play central midfield, left wing-back, left-back, left side of a back three.
"In terms of his age and experience, he fits the Halifax Town profile in that he’s got some good experience under his belt but he’s still got a bit to prove to people."
Hereford will be due compensation, and chairman Chris Ammonds said they respected Evans's wish to play at a higher level.
"While we were keen for him to remain here, and offered him a new deal to stay, Jack made it clear he wanted to try to return to full-time football and would not be signing a new contract," he said.
