News round-up: Ireland call-up, superb displays and much-needed experience

James Bowen has been retained by Boldmere St Michaels

Former Hereford United midfielder Craig Stanley, who made 81 appearances for the Bulls in the mid-2000s, is still playing at the age of 40.

He has been announced as the new player-manager of a step five club, Hampshire village side Brockenhurst FC. The club said Stanley would bring "much-needed experience on and off the field".

Kris Taylor, who spent two seasons at Hereford United from 2007 to 2009 before moving on to Port Vale, has agreed to stay at Chasetown - with their keeper Curtis Pond joining Hereford.

The club plays in the Northern Premier League Midlands division, and 39-year-old Taylor made 37 appearances last season. Previously a left-sided player, Chasetown said he "shows his class with superb displays at the heart of defence".

Fellow league club Boldmere St Michaels have retained James Bowen.

He became a popular left-back for Hereford and had two spells at the club under Peter Beadle, has been retained by Boldmere St Michaels. The former Cheltenham Town man made 40 appearances and scored two goals for the Sutton Coldfield club last season.

Dara O’Shea has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for their two UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers later this month.

He spent the 2017–18 season on loan at Hereford from West Bromwich Albion, helping the Bulls win the Southern League Premier. He has since broke into West Brom's first team, and is now a key figure in the dressing room.

Hereford's squad builder, which has already raised £13,000, has been called a "fantastic initiative" by the city's Conservative MP Jesse Norman.

Mr Norman tweeted he was "delighted to support it". Last season, the squad builder raised more than £65,000, significantly above the £40,000 target. But the club still has some way to go to beat Darlington's £162,070.
