Well Worth The Long Journey

Yan Klukowski Scored Hereford's First Goal

They said the third preliminary round of the FA Cup was regionalised. But when the draw was made and Hereford heard they were to play at Three Bridges, the best part of 165 miles, many supporters doubted the fact.

However at 4.50pm yesterday afternoon nobody minded. The Bulls had won 3-0 and will bank £5625.

It wasn't only the victory that made the afternoon so enjoyable. For the first of October it was quite sunny and warm which helped. But, perhaps, more so the host club. Hereford were made most welcome.

Three Bridges is a compact ground with just enough car-parking. A narrow pitch with a slight slope but perfectly playable.

Josh Gowling was forced to make several changes to his starting eleven. Jared Hodgkiss and Jack Evans are still recovering from injury. Aaron Amadi-Holloway has caught the bug going around the club so wasn't available.

Back in came Zac Lilly and Kane Thompson-Sommers. Miles Storey led the line with Tyrone Barnett on the bench.

The Bulls, in their white home kit, played up the slope in the first half.

They could have been a goal ahead within minutes if someone had got onto the end of a cross from James Caton.

Lilly had treatment after receiving a knock to his lower leg. He continued for a while before Yan Klukowski took his place.

Three Bridges had a couple of corners but despite a scramble in the goal mouth Hereford's defence stood firm.

Shortly afterwards Dino Visser had to make another save.

At the other end Hereford had chances to take the lead.

Storey sent a powerful shot towards goal from 25 yards. The keeper got a hand to it and it went behind for a corner.

Moments later Caton ran into the box but there was no one close enough for him to pick out.

Thompson-Sommers drove the ball across the goalmouth but again no-one could get on the end of it.

Three Bridges's best chance of the half came came when Kevin Rivera cleverly turned and shot with the ball hitting the crossbar.

Storey was brought down but the free kick came to nothing.

Thompson-Summers received a knock to his ankle and was later subbed whilst Three Bridges Number 15 deserved to get a second yellow for continuing to argue with the referee.

Mclean might have done better when one on one with the keeper.

Both sides had chances in the first period but Hereford really should have been ahead.

Gowling made changes at the break. Barnett took over from Storey leading the line and that change seemed to be the catalyst for a much more dominating second half from the visitors.

On 55 minutes Hereford took the lead.

Barnett won a header which fell to Klukowski who made no mistake. A goal for the newly appointed Hereford assistant manager.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0 to Hereford.

Storey found Caton who shot low evaded the keeper.

Three Bridges were tiring and it was no suprise when Hereford scored again on seventy minutes.

Initally Mclean drove down the right hand side but the keeper came out to block his angle.

To his credit Ryan kept possession and cut the ball back to Storey who scored from the edge of the box. It was no more than Hereford deserved and for Storey a much needed goal.

Given the score-line Gowling took off Caton and gave Mark Derricott a few minutes on the pitch.

Hereford might have made it four but Barnett couldn't quite get on the end of a high ball into the box.

Job done. But it was against a team two divisions below who were clearly not as fit.

The real test will be at Boston next Saturday.

The attendance was 746 with around 100 following the Bulls.
