Hereford FC captain Jared Hodgkiss spoke to the local media after yesterday's game. He started the interview with a few words about Gateshead.
"I like to say congratulations to Gateshead," said Hodgkiss.
"They are the team that stood out for me.
"Fair play to them and the job that the manager has done there.
"For us it's been a mixed season.
"Obviously the start of the season didn't help. If we had picked up even three or four more points it would have been a big help.
"That's because we had to rebuild. Hopefully the Gaffer does not have to do the same this season.
"I say it all the time to the lads, it's hard to get consistancy out of young players because as you more mature and more experienced that's when you start to get consistant performances.
"That's what we've been lacking this year. Maybe won one, drew one, then lost one, then go on a bit of a run, and then lose a couple of games.
"You've got to be a consistant team if you want to be successful and we just haven't quite reached those heights of being consistant this season."
Kouhyar and Gordon leaving plus injuries to others like Miles Storey hasn't helped?
"I wouldn't say a turning point but a massive hindrance to us really, not replacing those players.
"But that's what we have had to deal with. The club is stable financiallly and that's the main thing."
Hodgkiss has been captain for two seasons.
"Obviously it's an honour to be captain of such a big football club. It's frustrating at times when you lose but it's the best thing in the world when you win games.
"We've got some fantastic players in the squad, hopefully we can keep the majority of them
"0Football is a funny game, I've been in it long enough to know that confidence is a massive thing. They (Gateshead) are playing at the peak of their confidence so they are going to be a good team.
"We didn't hit the heights today that we have done this season.
"We're not miles away from the other teams, Gateshead and the likes of Brackley, we're not miles away.
"It's about consistant performances and we can put a consistant performance together for ninety minutes we'll compete with them every weekend."
So will Hodgkiss be playing for Hereford next season?
"Yes, fingers crossed.
"Look I love the club, I think it's a great club to be at.
"I enjoy working under the Gaffer and I enjoy the staff."
In front of the Meadow End Hodgkiss scored against Brackley last weekend.
" It was a great atmosphere last Monday.
"If we can get Edgar Street rocking it could be a fortress. But that comes from us as well, we need to put the performances in to make the fans get behind us.
"I think we'll be able to get on the front foot next season and have a good start."
In essence Hereford haven't had a striker good enough this season?
"I wouldn't disagree, I'm sure the Gaffer is looking at ways of bringing another centre forward in next season.
"Whether he'll be able to get in one of a high standard, let's hope so, we'll see."
Hereford have scored 51 goals this season.
"If you're like Brackley 51 goals is probably enough if you concede 25 in a season.
"We all play football for a reason to entertain, it's an entertainment sport so scoring goals that will please the fans.
"But I do think if you are winning 1-0 each week you'll get fans through the door. Hopefully!"
