Former Hereford United and Hereford FC player Rob Purdie was in the commentary box for last Monday's game between Hereford and Brackley.
Afterwards he spoke in length to BBC H&W Sport Editor Trevor Owens about the current situation at the club.
As for the game itself Purdie felt changes at half time had helped Hereford back into the game.
"Hereford turned the game around, they had more energy, they were on second balls and they took the game to them second half especially the last 25 minutes. They deserved their two goals," said Purdie.
"The way they lifted the crowd and the crowd lifted them again got them a point."
Owens made the point that the first half performance would have done little to sell season tickets for the next campaign.
"Give the crowd something to go away with, 1800 here today, and they think can't wait yes can't wait to come back for pre-season. You have a couple of decent pre-season games and the buzz starts to come back. Hereford managed to do that.
"Sometimes over 90 minutes if you have a good last 10 minutes people remember it, so it's better that Hereford didn't go two up and draw two all.
"From what I've seen this season it's twenty minutes here, ten minutes here. If they can play like that for longer spells in games, hopefully we can push on and just get those extra seven or eight points that were lacking this season."
During the season Hereford lost two players that had become regular starters in games, Maziar Kouhyar and Jaanai Gordon. Miles Storey was out for a spell with an injury. Would having them still available made a difference?
"It's those attacking players isn't it. Fifty goals this season scored, fifty conceded. You put an extra ten, fifteen goals on top of that which isn't that hard. Sixty goals in a season. All of a sudden you've got your extra ten points with it. It might have made a difference.
"It's a big summer for the board because they have got to decide where this football club goes
"Do we sit here for another couple of years and build a bit of a pot and then go for it or do we start now to try and push it.
"Whatever they do they have to be honest with the fans and explain their reasons behind what we're going to aim for next season because that will help Josh, that will help the players and hopefully get a bit of recruitment in the summer."
Purdie was asked about his assessment of where the club is at present.
"I think they are in almost a little bit of limbo at the moment.
"We had success for three seasons. Then the start of the next season ten, fifteen games in Peter Beadle left
"For me Peter Beadle should have stayed for that season. I think on a small budget he would have got this club mid table probably sneaking into the top half on a small budget.
"Then what we did was give too much money to people we didn't really know much about. Tim Harris came in and then Russ Slade came in and we gave them a lot of money and I think that has crippled our budget over the last two years when we've probably got a manager who cares a little bit more about the club, wants to get things going in the community, and could probably do with a little bit of a bigger budget.
"Unless that budget starts to increase however that might be I don't think this club is going to progress. They need 15 players on contract, a few young players and a couple of loan players.
"I think if we get seven or eight on contract and then some on non-contract you're going to lose any good players you have got the budget to keep them.
"This summer is a real big summer for the board. What are we going to do and how are we going to progress this football club
"And if they don't want to progress it right now, if they are not in a position to progress and they just need to consolidate for two years they need to come out and say we are going to consolidate for two years. If we get lucky we might get into the play-offs and go up. But right now we are going to consolidate for two years then everyone knows the expectations."
Owens felt that if the club consolidates why would fans bother buying a season ticket and would those players the club might want to keep stay, they might want more ambition and move on.
"It's a double edged sword," csaid Purdie.
"They've either got to put some money in and say this is what we're going to go for or they've got to be a bit optimistic with the budget they've got. Given this year's budget I think we've done quite well to be around the play-offs.
"I think everyone just needs to know what we were are going to be doing at this football club, the longer we stay in this division, the attendances will start to fall and then the less your changes of getting out of here.
"Whether that's investment from somewhere else or the supporters coming up with the money, whatever it might be, this club needs an injection of money again but it needs to be given to the right person.
"It wasn't the right person in Tim Harris or Russ Slade, I think if you gave Beadle or Josh their budgets I think you would expect to finish in the top four or five."
