Buxton have been promoted to National League North despite losing their final game of the season.
The Bucks - whose Silverlands ground is the highest in England - were defeated 1-0 by Stalybridge.
But South Shields also lost, meaning that it was Buxton who ended up winning the Northern Premier League title and gaining promotion to the sixth tier of English football.
South Shields will now have to make do with the play-offs where they will be joined by Scarborough Athletic, Matlock Town and Warrington Town.
Meanwhile, Alvechurch pipped AFC Rushden & Diamonds to the final play off place in the Southern League Premier Central Division.
The Worcestershire side - who battled Hereford for the Midland League title in 2015/16 - beat Royston 3-1 - while AFC Rushden surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to Nuneaton.
Peterborough Sports, Coalville Town and Rushall Olympic make up the other teams who will battling to go up through the play offs.
Banbury United claimed the title weeks ago and will be playing National North football next side. The Oxfordshire side ended up winning the league by a massive 23 points.
Meanwhile, it looks like King's Lynn Town will be returning to National League North.
The Linnets are eight points from safety in the National League with only three games remaining. They have also played two more matches than Aldershot Town, who lie outside the relegation places in 20th.
Elsewhere, barring a miracle, Weymouth will be joining Dover Athletic in National South next season. The Dorset side are 13 points from safety with five matches remaining.
