We're A Point Outside The Playoffs Said Gowling

In his post match interview after defeating Boston 2-1, Hereford manager Josh Gowling seemed pleased the the Bulls closed the gap towards a playoff position.

"I think we lose today and there's a bit of a gap," said Gowling.

"We knew today was a big game, now we're a point outside the playoffs so it's pleasing.

"We knew it would be a tough game, they are a good side, direct at times, but I just felt if we got the ball down and played we would be succesful today and we were.

"I think the second half was patchy but it was a bit better than it has been recently in the second halves.

"Their goal was a scruffy one really but I think overall we controlled the game when we had the ball down, when we played quickly and switched play and got in front of them I don't think they could live with us.

"We looked at them and we just thought if we put Ryan on the opposite side, we knew their wide left player didn't really track back so we wanted to get Ryan out on that side and get Maz on the opposite side which enabled Seb to get forward. And that worked really well today.

"We didn't have a lot of opportunities today but the ones we did we put away. I think if Miles puts that one away, a bit too close to the keeper, but if he puts that away the game dead.

"But they had their opportunity and it was backs to the wall a little bit."

Gowling looked back to Chorley last Saturday where the Bulls lost 3-2 mainly because of poor defending.

"Chorley have drawn today, had we beat Chorley then all of a sudden we're in the playoffs. So you don't want to lose games that way.  The lads were frustrated. We're done a lot on the training ground since to get it right and I thought the lads were excellent today.

"They battled where the balls were thrown in the box. We won first contact. If it dropped down we won the second phase. That was pleasing."

Two additions this week to the squad, Patten was on the bench.

"Jamie can on at the end just to shore up the back three a little bit. So it shows the depth we have in the squad now. Brandon has been brilliant all season but now Sondergaard has come in and he's got a bit of competition now. I think that's what Brandon needs.

"I thought Mo (Touray) was excellent when he came on. I just didn't feel we were holding onto the ball well enough. He just gets that ball down and holds it and gives us that extra second which we needed second half."
