Former Hereford striker Lenell John-Lewis has joined York City on loan from Grimsby.
He is said to be short of match fitness and is out of contract at the end of the season.
"Having conversations with Lenny, he wants to play football, which I totally understand," said Grimsby manager Paul Hurst.
"From my point of view, I don't think I've had the best version of him.
"He needs more games, although he's been involved in the reserve games, to get the best out of him, he needs to be playing competitive football.
"That's the idea behind it. The idea that we've seen
the last of him at Grimsby Town isn't in my mind, not for one second.
The idea is for him to go away, get games and come back in a better
place with his fitness, confidence and sharpness."
