The outcome of this afternoon's game at Edgar Street came down to two penalties, one awarded to each side.
Southport scored their penalty, Hereford did not score their penalty.
Southport were given their penalty early in the second half when the referee Ross Martin thought Ben Pollock had been guilty of hand-ball.
After the game Hereford manager Josh Gowling gave his thoughts about Southport's penalty.
"The referee was 40 yards away and it's gone through a body of players and hits Ben in his stomach, we've seen the video, clean in the middle of his stomach and he gave a penalty.
"I don't know how he sees that but they put it way."

Later in the half Miles Storey appeared to be pulled down by the Southport keeper Cameron Mason. It seemed that the referee hadn't noticed anything but the linesman had. However Maziar Kouhyar's attempt was easily kept out and although Mason spilled it no one could react quickly enough.
"We've had a penalty which is a penalty," said Gowling.
"He's pulled him down back post.
"Maziar took the penalty because Toe (Owen-Evans) wasn't on the pitch.
"If you are going to miss, miss.
"For me it was a very tame effort."
Hereford were awarded a corner which Kouhyar took. Luke Haines got his head on it but couldn't point it towards goal.
However keeper Mason appeared to have impeded Miles Storey and the Hereford player landed in the back of the net.
The linesman called for a penalty and after a discussion with the referee it was given.
