It Was A Difficult Game Said Burr

Hereford's assistant manager Steve Burr spoke to the local media after yesterday's game against Gateshead which the visitors won 2-0.

"It was a difficult game," said Burr.

"Gateshead are a good side, we knew that.

"It was a difficult afternoon for us.

"We stayed in the game up to half time and I thought we started the second half quite brightly. A couple of chances we should have done better with. And one in the first half when Miles has gone through. We counter attack quite well but fair play to Gateshead they deserved their victory.

"We've had a few problems with injuries and what have you and the two lads ( Egan and Revan ) we've brought in, throwing them in. Quite a baptism of fire for them lads. Both of them did very well for us.

"But we need the others to help them as well. They haven't trained with us. But that's no excuse.

"Gateshead knocked it about well and they deserved to win the game today.

"You can see way they are up there. We've watched them a couple of times this season  and they are a good side trying to get out of this division.

"Today there were moments in the game that we could have done better with, we gave the ball away too cheaply in the first game. And when you are playing a side like Gateshead when you lose the ball you don't see it for a while.

"The lads worked hard enough, couldn't really fault them for their efforts but just ran out of steam in the second half.

"Probably second half they probably scored against the run of play but I thought we started quite brightly. I the end they just showed their quality and composure in the areas we could have done better.

"There were chances and Miles hasn't deliberately gone and missed, everybody wants to score. He's nicked the ball from the half way line and ran through. Then I think the tough towards the goal just got away from him. He was disappointed himself.

"The one in the second half with a header, probably a more difficult chance, just wasn't to be.

"But that's the difference at the moment. When chances come your way you have to be ruthless and that was the difference with Gateshead.

"All in all if you are scoring goals you are going to win matches. We struggled to do that today.

"We're missing key players who has done well for us this season. Obviously Chief (Krystian Pearce) he's going to be back after another couple of games. But they are big misses to us especially with a small squad.

"But I must say the young lads who came in today did well for us."

Striker Jannai Gordon didn't start - was that tactical or is he carrying an injury?

"No, we felt we were going to use Miles down the middle today and Jannai was on the bench.

"But I thought when he came on he showed his desire to want to be in the starting eleven.

"We've got a lot of games coming up thick and fast now so we'll have a look at it again and see what the situation is on Monday morning for Tuesday night against Kiddy."

Finally Burr spoke about Jamie Egan and Seb Revan who made their debuts.

"A young lad (Egan) coming in, the first time he's met the lads was when we met up today at 1pm and I thought he did well. He's a young lad starting out in the game.

"The same with Seb, the Villa lad, he did well.

"Really pleased with their debuts.

"But you need everybody to help those young lads, they are still young lads. They are at pro-clubs but they need help as well.

"Egan will be hear for a month so we'll see how things go."
