Can Gowling Fill The Bench At Merstham?

Last Tuesday at York Josh Gowling could only name four substitutes, tomorrow for the FA Cup game at Merstham he can name seven if he has seven fit enough players.

Returning from injury last Tuesday were Tom Owen-Evans and sub George Forsyth. But Gowling was still without Luke Haines, Miles Storey, James Vincent, Yan Klukowski and Krystian Pearce.

And it was somewhat of a surprise to see Forsyth on the bench as Gowling explained afterwards.

"Fozy has not trained, he's been out for three weeks. He messaged me yesterday and said Gaffer I want to be on the bench and that's what we want.

"He came on today with twenty minutes left and put in a shift like that. It's a credit to him.

"I think you find when you start winning games players magically get better!

"We still wanting Krystian, Vinny has been for a scan, we've had the results back from that. He had a grade one on his medial which is normally four weeks, he's had that already so we're be looking to have him back in the next couple of weeks.

"Yan is a couple of weeks away.

"Ryan had a late fitness test today (dead leg) he's managed to get in.

"Aaron is working hard to get them fit but I haven't been worried about having injuries because of the squad we've got.

"What we did do is load more in wide areas this year than we did last year. So when we've had Miles injuried with his thigh we've got Maziar to come in, he was excellent today. One thing about Maziar he's been different class coming off the bench, he's been a game-changer. Now we want him to do that starting. He's said I want that shirt and that's what you want.

"We've won games unbeaten now and that's what it's about.

"We'll go there, it's not going to be easy, it's a long old drive for some of us, five hours or so for some of the boys, for me a bit longer.

"We want to go there and win and then we'll see where the FA Cup takes us."
