Bulls progress to Fourth Round of the FA Trophy

Hereford are through to the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy after a Lenell John-Lewis goal was enough to beat Nantwich Town 1-0 this afternoon.

The Bulls striker was on hand to tap home Kyle Finn's cross in the 67th minute.

Both sides saw free kicks rattle the crossbar, while other chances were created in an entertaining game.

Hereford made one change to the side that beat St Neots in the previous round just four days previously, with Dylan Jones replacing the injured Jared Hodgkiss.

Both sides had early chances, with John-Lewis and Chris Camwell going close for Hereford. Then in the 12th minute, Tom Owen-Evans had an effort blocked before John-Lewis saw his shot saved by Nantwich keeper Greg Hall.

At the other end, Yan Klukowski had to clear Scott McGowan's effort off the line.

Hereford then had a great chance to open the scoring in the 16th minute when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. However, Camwell's set piece rattled the crossbar. John-Lewis then had a deflected effort that went over, while James McQuilkin fired wide. The Bulls should have taken the lead in the 29th minute, but when John-Lewis turned his marker, he saw his effort saved.

Nantwich then had some chances just before half time, including when Curtis Miller fired just wide, but it was goalless at the break.

Heavy rain then lashed the area during the break, making conditions difficult in the second half. Hereford again had a great chance to take the lead in the 62nd minute, but Jamie Grimes fired over from just yards out.

However, Hereford did go ahead just five minutes later. Good work from Kelsey Mooney set the ball up for Finn, who in turn laid it off for John-Lewis to tap home.

John-Lewis then had a shot blocked as the Bulls tried to seal the win, while Finn had an effort saved. The Bulls had further chances and were almost paid for missing them when Nantwich were awarded a free kick in stoppage time. But just like Camwell did in the first half, Callum Saunders' effort smashed against the crossbar and Hereford held on for the win.
