Hereford claim excellent away win

Lenell John-Lewis celebrates his goal

Hereford stormed to a 3-0 away win at Blyth Spartans this afternoon.

Tom Owen-Evans struck two quick goals in the first half, with Lenell John-Lewis firing home a fine third after the break.

It is the third time in four games that the Bulls have kept a clean sheet in National League North this season and sets up an intriguing match against table-toppers Gloucester at Edgar Street on Tuesday.

Hereford started well and saw a Kelsey Mooney header go wide in the opening minute. However, Blyth also looked threatening and had a great chance to score in the 17th minute. However, Paul Blackett's effort went wide.

The home side were now in control but Hereford turned the game massively in their favour thanks to Owen-Evans' brace.

His first goal came when he got on the end of Dan Jones' quickly taken corner in the 33rd before before he curled home a second just two minutes later.

The momentum was clearly with Hereford and the Bulls had the ball in the back of the net for a third time in the 38th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to Kelsey Mooney being in an offside position when he diverted John-Lewis' shot in.

Owen-Evans then had a great chance to seal a remarkable first half hat-trick two minutes before half time but his effort hit the side netting.

Hereford were in control and had chances to extend their lead after the break, notably when Yan Klukowski saw a fizzing effort brilliantly turned away by Blyth goalkeeper Brad Young. Blyth still posed a threat when chances came away and Matthew Elsdon shot just wide on the hour mark.

However, the Bulls sealed the win in the 72nd minute when John-Lewis ran at the Blyth defence before firing home from 25 yards out.

'The Shop' has chances to add to the scoreline and it wouldn't have been inconceivable if Hereford had won by five or six-nil.

Mooney had a late chance for Hereford, but Hereford had to settle for just the three goals. Next up is a home game against table-topping Gloucester on Tuesday which will be a true test to see the Bulls' credentials this season.
