Chester's Joint Manager Talks About Getting Covid-19

Chester City's joint manager Anthony Johnson is one of seven players and staff who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The club have postponed four games including tonight's fixture against Hereford.

"I tested positive then, within 12 or 24 hours of the positive test, I started to lose my taste," said Johnson as reported by CheshireLive.

"That was last Wednesday. I thought I can deal with this, then all of a sudden on Friday and Saturday it hit me like a tonne of bricks.

"I woke up on Saturday morning feeling like I had run a marathon even though I hadn’t done any exercise. So I knew it was to do with this.

"Then it got worse on Sunday and Monday. I was struggling to get out of bed and walk about. I wasn’t poorly with a temperature or coughing but was tired, my bones were aching and I had a headache.

"I don’t feel as bad as I did but I am really aching.

"It sounds daft because some people don’t show any symptoms, but if this is the worst I get then I can just about cope but it is not nice.

"I am the oldest in the group that has got it so I don’t know whether that affects me a little bit more. One or two of the others have said they feel similar to how I do and one or two who are a similar age to them have shown no symptoms.

"I had not really had anybody close to me have it. Not even any of the players had had it over the last eight of nine months. Then in the space or five or six days it has hit six or seven of us. I can only speak for myself but I can see how it would affect an older person.

"My grandma is 80 and I imagine if she got what I have she would really struggle. So, you appreciate it a little more what people have gone through with it.

"Because it doesn’t affect us, we downplay what it is. But when it is someone close to you, whether a family member or a friend, or a player of the team you support, it feels much closer to home.

"It was lovely to hear about all the messages of support. It just shows what a great family and community club we are."
