Hereford FC manager Josh Gowling feels that his squad is more 'physical' now and that helped defeat Gosport in the FA Cup this afternoon but he conceeded that they need to be better on the ball.
Speaking after Hereford's 3-1 win Gowling said it was a good performance from the lads.
"They (Gosport) are a good side, they've played three League games, they've won two and drawn one and not conceeded a goal.
"The odds were against us slightly but our lads were resiliant, they worked hard, they pressed well but there is still a lot of work to do."
Given all the new signings, interviewer Keith Hall felt the side had gelled so quickly.
"I think the lads know each other, I think that's one of the biggest things. Andrai (Jones) has come in now and he knows Lenny, I know Kennedy (Digie) and Kennedy knows Grimes. So there is a link with all the lads we've tried to bring in because we knew we wouldn't have enough time to bed them in so at least they were coming into an environment where they are smiling faces they know, it's an easier bedding in period. It's worked well so far but we've got a lot to do.
"I though Luke Haines was excellent. He's assured, wins headers, gets on the ball and gives us that calmness.
"I think we are more physical now. I think that the biggest thing. Individual battling in the middle of the park, I think people did that well today.
"I know it's early days but we want to be resiliant, we want to be strong, we want to be organised and I think we were that today."
Hereford won two penalties and scored from both. The first by John-Lewis and the second by Owen-Evans as John-Lewis had gone off with an injury.
"The first one definitely, the second one I could see Toe was going to chop him so they are given, they are not given."
A couple of injury worries.
"Jake had a bit of cramp, he's not long come in. He's been training and worked hard to keep himself fit but there is nothing like games and he's only played 20 minutes in a pre-season friendly.
"So it was tough for him but Kennedy stepped right in, that's why we brought him in and he's excellent. He's a man mountain. he's assured at the back.
"Lenny, it was a horrible tackle, sissored him on his ankle. We'll have a look on Monday but Andrai (Jones) came on, worked hard, quick, direct, got a good leap on him."
No place for Dan Jones and Demetri Brown this afternoon.
"Dan is a bit tight and Demi. the goalie landed on him during the Chippenham game and we're accessing that now. Might be a little ligament in his knee.
"We are looking to bring in reinforcements, we were supposed to bring in two League strikers but because of Covid they've ended up not going in so we are still looking.
"A lot of teams are holding onto their players but hopefully we can get something over the line before Southport, if not we'll go with what we've got.
"I think a lot of the fans were worried about our attacking threat but by the way we played today we got that in abundance.
"We came into the game knowing they had played three competitve games already and they had a crowd and we were not allowed a crowd in you think it's against us a little bit but we've got a resiliant bunch, an organised bunch and they came here today and put on that performance it's pleasing.
"But we are a million miles off where I want to be.
"I think we need to be better in transition on the ball. There was a lot of pressure on us in the second half and I expect us to be better on the ball. So that's something we've got to work on even more.
"But in defence I thought we were excellent."
