This from the FSA:
This week pressure has been building on the Government to allow
fans into football grounds to bring the sport in line with spectator
events in other areas of the economy.
While theatres,
public attractions, pubs and restaurants remain open to punters with
COVID safety measures in place, football fans remain locked out of
matches putting the existence of lower league and non-league clubs at
risk.
Now a petition calling on the Government to allow fans into
COVID-secure fixtures is nearing 200,000 signatories - meaning the
issue will be back in Parliament once again in the near future.
Meanwhile
the Premier League, EFL, FA, Women’s Super League and Women’s
Championship have been lobbying on the issue, releasing a joint open
letter to supporters reaffirming their commitment to getting fans back
into stadiums safely.
Our chief exec Kevin Miles said: “We are
completely behind football’s efforts to get fans back in grounds, in a
safe and controlled manner, and we welcome this letter. We will continue
to work with the authorities to help that become a reality.
“Football
clubs across the country have been preparing for a safe return of
supporters, and the longer stadiums remain closed the bigger the threat
to the very existence of many clubs.”
