Hereford FC assistant manager Steve Burr spoke to the media after this afternoon's final pre-season friendly at Chippenham which the Bulls lost 1-0.
"Very disappointing today," said Burr. "I thought the game itself was poor.
"And after the last couple of friendlies against Solihull when we showed some really good signs, we were really disappointed with how things went today.
"I think today we probably thought we could just turn up here at Chippenham and our football would win us the game without putting the hard work in.
"To be fair to Chippenham they worked, they closed us down, they stopped us playing and credit to them.
"You've got to earn the right to put a foothold in the game and win matches, and we didn't do enough of that today."
Burr was asked about striker Lenell John-Lewis, who's been recovering from injury.
"Lenny's going to be back in full training next week so all being well, he'll be available next Saturday. We miss him, as he's a pivotal figure in the team."
Both Jake Wright and Ben Pollock suffered knocked in the match.
"Jake's had five stitches just below his eye, and Ben Pollock went down with a block tackle - we thought it was a foul," said Burr. "We'll have to have a look at that on Monday."
The Bulls played several triallists in the second half, and Burr admitted the club had to "nail one or two down to finalise the squad" ahead of next week.
Next Saturday, the Bulls start their FA Cup campaign at Gosport, followed by the opening league fixture at Haig Avenue against Southport on Tuesday night.
"Everybody, particularly with what's going on at the moment, needs the revenue from the FA Cup so hopefully we can be one of those clubs that progress, but we know how difficult it'll be down there."
