Something slightly different for today's archive article, a look back at the stats for the season 2009/10 which appeared on BN dated May 12th 2010.

The following article has some of the facts and figures from the past season:

Marc Pugh was the only Bulls player to get into double figures with 13, Leon Constantine and Gavin McCallum tied in second with eight each. Pugh ended up joint 19th in the League Two scoring charts, one of only three midfielders in the top 20. There were 15 different League scorers, five of them loanees who provided ten of the 54 goals in total. The 54 goals was 18th best in the division.

The Bulls scored more in the second half than first, 34 to 27 in all competition with one extra-time goal. The last five minutes were the most likely for a goal for the Bulls - and against. They scored eight, and conceded 13 in that five minute period.

The Bulls won only once when the opposition scored first from 23 occasions, and only lost once when they scored first from 22 occasions. They kept ten clean sheets winning nine of those games, the third best record in the division but were second worst in failing to scored with 13 nils to their name.

If we had only played top half sides we would have finished 11th, and 19th if we'd have only played the bottom half. If we could at least hold a draw at half time we'd have been in the play-offs. We were 7th best at holding a half time lead, and fourth best when drawing, but we gained only a solitary point - and bottom place in the League - from losing situations at the break.

In terms of shooting the Bulls had 234 shots on target, the sixth worst total, and 212 off target. Only Barnet had fewer shots off-target. The Bulls got 51.5% of shots on target, better than Bournemouth, Dagenham, and Morecambe. Pugh managed the most shots on target (36), followed by Constantine and McCallum on 25. Ryan Valentine is the man that needs to stay away from goal. Despite scoring five, mostly from the spot, he got just six of 18 shots on target. Constantine was the unlucky man, hitting the post four times.

On the disciplinary front the Bulls committed fewer fouls than all but Crewe but only Grimsby and Northampton had more players sent off. Darren Jones racked up 46 fouls, little more than one per game, with Kenny Lunt committing 37 offences. Mathieu Manset deserves a mention, coming third in the Bulls list with 32 fouls in barely half a season. The division's worst offender was Adebayo Akinfenwa, who committed 80 fouls.

Marc Pugh also headed up the assists stats with seven, putting him joint 15th in the division. Kenny Lunt recorded five assists with Matt Done, Craig King, and Gavin McCallum all recording three.

The Bulls used 37 players. Darlington used 58, Lincoln and Grimsby 45. Lowest employers were Accrington with 25. Of those 37, 16 were loan players. Four players featured in just one game this season, while Joel Edwards was the only contracted player not to take to the field at all.

Only eight players were ever-present across the entire division, five of them were goalkeepers. Adam Bartlett started 45 and played in all but a handful of minutes of the 46th match, coming on as a sub for the dismissed Chris Adamson at Notts County. Kenny Lunt started 42 games, Ryan Valentine 40, with Darren Jones and Marc Pugh starting 39 with one sub appearance. Mathieu Manset and Matt Done were the most used from the bench, with both making 13 sub appearances.

On attendances the Bulls ended with an average of 2,138, down 35% on last season - the highest percentage drop of any club in the top five divisions. Macclesfield had the lowest average with 1,887, while 16 of the 24 clubs had an average of 3,000 or more.
