We Gave Them Too Much Respect Said Gowling

Hereford FC interim manager Josh Gowling is still without a win after taking over from Russell Slade. Whilst Altrincham was never going to be easy, two mistakes led to their goals.

"They are up there for a reason but I don't feel we were at it," Gowling told the local media.

"I think we gave them a little bit too much respect, two mistakes cost us the game.

"We did some work on them in the week and we knew their movement was difficult to match. We were aware of pressing too high, too early.

"I do want to respect anyone in this league we have a job to do and we've got to get points on the board, I've let the lads know that. We go to York on Tuesday night and we don't show them any respect.

"I think we kept the ball well, I think when we got to the final third it was that last pass or the control that let us down a little bit.

"If you look at the game we had some good chances but we just didn't put it away.

"We wanted out full backs to get forward, Keiran has played left back, he's not a natural  left back so obviously it's difficult for him. I think he played well but he didn't get on as much.

"We worked in the week on our two wide players getting a lot wider but we didn't really do that today. I think we went inside a bit too much."

After Altrincham scored their first goal Kelsey Mooney had a couple of chances.

"Obviously the toe-poke that ended up near the corner flag and then he had a header.

"I think when you look at the game the chances we had, we probably had the better chances in the game but you end up losing 2-0."

Altrincham scored just before half-time.

"The cross came in too easy, then the shot. All round could have been a lot better. We're disappointed with that."

Their secong goal came about after Brandon Hall failed to grasp the ball firmly.

"He came in at the end and held his hands up. It's kind of bounced in front of him so you want to see him palm it wide but we all make mistakes."
