Club Historian Ron Parrott has received some sad news this morning with the passing away of another Hereford United player from the 1960s. Peter McCall died at his home in Bristol on Sunday February 9th at the age of 83.
Ron comments:- “This is very sad news for me, he was one of my particular favourites during his two seasons at Edgar Street. He simply oozed class and I remember that he always seemed to glide around the pitch, never seemed hurried and always seemed to find himself in acres of space. He was not afraid to push forward either and I recall his cultured and sweet right foot. Thanks for the memories Peter!”

Born West Ham 11th September 1936, died Bristol February 9th 2020
Peter was a stylish right-half and started his career with Kings Lynn in 1955 before joining Bristol City in 1957 whilst still a teenager. In just his second game for their Colts team, he unfortunately broke an ankle and had to bide his time before playing regularly with the Reserves and making his first-team debut in April 1958. Peter spent five seasons at Ashton Gate and made 84 appearances from his favourite number four position, scoring just one goal, in a 3-0 home victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.. In the summer of 1962, Peter continued his Football League career with Oldham Athletic and helped them to promotion to Division Three in his first season and over three years, he made 108 appearances for the Latics before Bob Dennison signed him for Hereford in 1965.
A classy and cultured right-half, Peter was a crowd pleaser and never seemed troubled when in possession. He spent two successful seasons at Edgar Street and displayed a combination of creativity with the ability to win most 50/50 balls and he scored nine goals in 86 appearances. After leaving Hereford, Peter decided to retire from the game. In later years he became an international bowls player and represented England for four successive seasons.
