With the news that Hereford FC is to have a new digital scoreboard, BN looks back to when the current scoreboard started life on the Blackfriars End.
This from May 2010:
It's something that
is taken for granted these days but ten years ago the revelation that
Hereford United was to install an Electronic Scoreboard at Edgar Street
was something of a surprise for the cash striken club.
A life-long Hereford United fan has left money to the club in his will, but for a specific purpose. An electronic scoreboard is to be purchased, and it has been promised by the club that it will be up in time for next season. The board will probably be placed at the Blackfriars End, so it will be in full view of the United fans at Meadow End and Main Stand, reported hu-fc.co.uk at the time.
It later emerged that the life-long Hereford United supporter, Anthony Tindell, who lived in the city had left the money to the Nationwide Conference club with the request to have a scoreboard erected.
However his bequest didn't quite cover the cost of the scoreboard and its installation so the club funded the shortfall.
