Former Hereford striker James Roberts was left
disappointed after his Spennymoor side failed to hold on to their lead
yesterday.
Roberts set up Andrew Johnson for the visitor’s
equaliser before fellow marksman Glen Taylor rifled home a second.
However, substitute Tom Owen-Evans levelled for
Hereford just minutes after coming off the bench to secure his side a point.
“I thought the game was incredibly even in the first
half, and in the second half I felt like we were the more dominant side,” said
Roberts.
“If we had taken our chances, we’d have been a little
more comfortable by the time they grabbed the equaliser.
“We’re disappointed we didn’t see the game out and get
all three points, but as I well know, as do the boys from last year, Hereford
is not an easy place for teams to come and get points at.
“So, we take the point and we’re really happy with our
performance.”
Roberts said he enjoys playing at Edgar Street and
felt the visiting fans helped his side.
“They made noise all day long and that’s massive,” he
said.
“We’re looking to have a successful season and go one
better here at Spennymoor than we did last year.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying my time with Spennymoor;
there’s an excellent group of lads and management and a club that’s
fantastically set up and I who feel are on the rise. So, I’m delighted to be up
here trying to help them towards a successful season.”
Roberts initially joined Alvechurch on loan last
season before joining Spennymoor.
“I’d have liked to have had more of an impact whilst
there,” he said.
“I always gave 100% when I was on the pitch, whether
things were going good or bad, but I’d have like to have contributed with a few
more goals than I did.
“But I really enjoyed my time and am thankful I had
the chance to play for them and meet some fantastic people.
“I would like to wish
Hereford all the best for their season and look forward to seeing them later in
the season at our place."
