Boston United are the visitors to Edgar Street on Saturday for a National North League fixture.
And after last Monday's dismal performance at Chester, Hereford newly appointed first team manager Russell Slade will be hoping that he can inspire the squad to, at the very least, compete with their opponents.
"We just destroyed them," said Chester joint manager Anthony Johnson.
That's the first time since Hereford was reformed that a quote like that has appeared. Hopefully it will be a long time before anything similar appears.
To be fair Chester were by far the best side Hereford have played this season to date. But to see supporters walking out of the Deva Stadium not long after the start of the second half was telling.
"We lost our battles all over the pitch," said captain Josh Gowling.
And in his post match interview interim manager Tim Harris admitted that he felt for the fans who had travelled to Chester.
"We didn't do the basics," he said.
Hereford will have to 'do the basics' and 'win battles all over the pitch' if they want to defeat Boston who defeated Altrincham 5-0 last Monday. It was the perfect tonic for the Pilgrims after they lost 3-0 at Gloucester two days earlier.
"Altrincham will be up there at the end of the season so to play like we did,
score the goals, play in the manner we did, I am really pleased for the
players because it takes a lot of character to come back from Saturday," said manager Craig Elliott.
The two teams last met at Edgar Street at the end of last season. Boston won the game 2-0.
"It was just flat," said captain Josh Gowling after the game.
"You get them days
sometimes where the whole team doesn’t really perform and it was one of those
days."
Similar to Monday at Chester?
It could be so different tomorrow with a new, very experienced, man in charge.
Slade was introduced to the players last night at training. No doubt he will have looked at recent videos and so will have some knowledge of their capabilities.
Whether he will make many, if any, changes to the starting eleven tomorrow remains to be seen.
But a new face in the dug-out is bound to inspire the players and also put several hundred on the gate.
And, hopefully, three points.
