Davies Feels Hereford Will Win More Games Than They Lose

Former Hereford interim Head of Football Gareth Davies said he felt for Marc Richards on Saturday because the players didn't do enough in the first half, but was pleased with the Bulls' second half performance.

The former Hereford United defender said if the players continue to play like they did after the break, the side will win more games than they lose between now and the end of the season.

When asked if it was a fair result, Davies said: "I think a draw is."

"If it wasn't a mistake from Cam Belford, you can say going in at 2-0 down would we have come back from that?

"I've said on the radio I feel for Marc Richards because I don't think the players gave enough in the first half. With the desire, commitment and hunger to run harder, run more intelligently I think it was a really good performance.

"The disappointing thing is there were boos at the end of the game and I think people were reflecting on the first half rather than how well we played second half."

Many supporters viewed the game as a 'must win' because Nuneaton prop up the National League North table, and Hereford are only three places above them.

Was a draw acceptable?

"It is if you haven't lost," Davies added.

"One point could be the difference come the end of the season. On that performance, Hereford will win more games than they lose between now and the end of the season if the players show that commitment.

"It was a different system, played with a very rigid 4-4-2 first half. I'm not afraid to say it, I want players to run with a tempo, with an intelligence and to run harder than the person next to you.

"We didn't do that first half, they (Nuneaton) wanted it a bit more. I think then when Marc changed it to a system players like, I don't always buy that as an excuse. Marc will have gone to a 4-4-2 because he will have seen something analytically that he could've got rewards and benefits against Nuneaton - he would've seen weaknesses.

"They set a problem and he found a solution in a 4-4-2, it hasn't worked. But well done, it was brave, you change it and results come second half. A little bit more quality second half and you come away with the win.

"I'm really pleased for the players and in particular for the management team that the players have produced a performance second half."

Davies spent four games in charge of Hereford
There have been wholesale changes to the side since Gareth Davies was temporarily in charge following Pete Beadle's dismissal - 11 players have departed, not including Tom Harrison who returned to parent-club Bristol City, or Ryan Green who's currently a scout for the Bulls.

Overall has there been an improvement?

"That's hard to say because I haven't had the opportunity to work with them and I perhaps haven't seen them enough.

"Seeing the players they are, the league table says no but there are elements in the performances to show they are heading in the right direction and there are improvements being made.

"When you look at the likes of Keiran Thomas and his performance, George Lloyd, Tom Owen-Evans. Yeah okay, Thomas was here at the start of the season but George has come back on loan and what I like is he never gives up.

"He's a talent as well, but I would like 11 players always out in a Hereford team, in my team or a team that I watch, to just give everything that you've got.

"The fans will back you if you give everything and I think first half the players will hold their hands up and say they didn't give enough."
