The 35 year old is available for selection for tomorrow's game at Guiseley. He had been on loan at Alfreton from parent club Torquay.
“I think I’m quite calm and collected," said Gowling as reported by Hereford's OS.
"When the pressure is on, that’s when I come into my own, and I’m a bit more relaxed.
“It’s about seeing out games. When you’re on top, getting that finish, and then when your backs against the wall just being together, being solid and being organised.”
Gowling first came to Edgar Street on loan from Carlisle in November 2008 as a replacement for Bruno N'Gotty.
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told their official site about the loan: "Again, this will give the player the opportunity to get some regular first team football under his belt. That wasn't quite happening for Josh here with us at the moment, so this move will provide that opening for him."
After his loan was extended chairman Graham Turner tried to buy the defender from Carlisle but his offer was rejected.
Later Gowling spoke about his time at Edgar Street.
"It was brilliant at Hereford, it is close to home, I am from Coventry so it is an hour drive from Coventry. The manager, John Trewick, was my youth manager at West Brom so it was brilliant to see him again. It was unfortunate that obviously they went down but it is a great club and a great bunch of lads so I really enjoyed it."
