League Bosses Keeping An Eye On Nuneaton

National League bosses are monitoring the situation at Nuneaton Town with the club's future in doubt.

Earlier this month, the owner of Nuneaton's Liberty Way stadium Norman Smurthwaite, who also owns Port Vale, said time was running out to find a new board in time for the National League board meeting on November 1.

Smurthwaite can't own two clubs at once as it would be in breech of FA rules, but he is trying to find a new owner.

Stoke-on-TrentLive reports that the league has asked the club to provide evidence of who the current owner is as former chairman Lee Thorne saying he no longer owns Boro Leisure Limited, the club’s parent company.

Nuneaton recorded their highest attendance of the season last week as 823 fans saw them hammered 6-0 at home to Bradford Park Avenue.

Despite that, Boro boss Nicky Eaden had nothing but praise everyone connected with the club.

“Let’s not mess about, last week was a tough week for all of us," Eaden said, as reported by Coventy Live.

“I’ve had some frank discussions with the players about the future here and it has been more than hard but to see the effort they put in last week – plus the support they got – it was great to see.

“The fans really got behind the team and I think they showed what it all means. People care and it’s what we need at this stage.

"I know the result wasn’t great, it was a bad defeat, but we gave it everything out there and the fans came to see that. We will need more of that going forward this season.”

Nuneaton face a tough-looking trip to Stockport County tomorrow, which could be their last game if a new owner isn't found.

Should the worst happen and Nuneaton not meet the league's demands, their results will be expunged - similar to what happened to Hereford United in 2014.

This means that Hereford will lose the point they picked up at Boro in August, but high-flying clubs like Chorley, Brackley and Bradford will miss out on three.
