Following the postponement of the game at Biggleswade on Tuesday, Hereford FC are still looking to put last weekend’s disappointment against Kings Lynn behind them and get back on the winning trail. With a week of heavy rain - and yet more snow forecast on Saturday - it remains to be seen if the fixture at Basingstoke Town manages to beat the weather.
Hereford could welcome back Ryan Green who missed the Kings Lynn game through injury and was also set to miss the game in midweek. The failure of that game going ahead will have been a benefit to him and it is hoped that he will slot back into one of the centre-half positions. With the forward line drawing a blank last weekend, it is likely that Pete Beadle will review his options up front with John Mills still chomping at the bit for a start. A full week off is no bad thing and the Bulls should be close to full strength.
Basingstoke have been on a decent run of late with narrow victories against Stratford, Hitchin and St Neots and an impressive 1-1 draw away at Slough. The Dragons currently sit in 10th place and look set for a mid-table finish. They have only been beaten twice in league matches at the Camrose Stadium all season: losing 3-1 to Frome on the opening day and a 2-1 defeat to Kings Lynn. Former AFC Wimbledon and Aldershot manager, Terry Brown, will celebrate two years in charge at Basingstoke next week, but with such tremendous home form, he will be slightly disappointed that his side aren’t closer to the playoff positions.
Hereford remain top of the pile and following Kings Lynn’s win over Slough in the week the gap was further narrowed to just 4 points. In the space of four days, the Norfolk side gained 6 points on the leaders although having now played two games more. A win for Beadle’s side is vital, but Basingstoke must be treated with respect. Three points in this game would then be followed by three consecutive home fixtures that could provide a decent opportunity to reaffirm Hereford’s healthy advantage as league leaders.
