Brown Delighted With Win Over Hereford

Basingstoke manager Terry Brown was delighted with his side's 3-1 win over Hereford yesterday.

After the game he spoke to BN.

"Delighted with the performance against what I think is the best side in the League by a country mile," said Brown.

"I think Hereford are going to win it and I think they have a great manager and great players."

So why didn't Hereford perform?

"I think this ground is fortress Camrose for us.

"We can't win away from home. We beat everybody here. We beat Kettering with half a side here.

"We manage the ground with the slope on it and it's always windy. But we manage to play here very well.

"I thought we had every break today that we could, we started off with the early goal which gave us something to hold on to.

"We battled our socks off and defended brilliantly in the first half against the wind.

"Then second half Hereford took the game to us, they battled us.

"When they got that equaliser I'm thinking you could go on the win it now.

"But we were able to make a couple of subs. Normally we play the boy Smart who is a tremendous athlete and a real quick boy. It was great to be able to bring him on.

"He was able to turn Hereford and get at them when they were, quite rightly, pushing everybody forward to get to win.

"We were also able to put on a good mid-fielder and a good  right back who just walked in the door this week.

"So sometimes as a manager you think great 3-1 win but everything went right for us today.

"But I wish Peter and Hereford the best for the rest of the season."

Brown felt the pitch didn't help Hereford.

"The pitch is muddy first half, bone hard second half, the wind is howling.

"We had five at the back with three sitting in front of that and it's very difficult to break that down."

Reminded that the win was Basingstoke's seventh win at home in a row, Brown was still wary.

"You know it will go pear-shaped against Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday!

"This is a difficult place to come and, given it's our last year here, proud to do the old ground justice.

"We're moving next year to a smaller site but this ground, much as I love it, is falling down."
