With the help of supporters far and wide Matt Healey continues to unearth video of Hereford United games some of which hasn't seen for years.
One video he recently posted on Bulls News was the 7-2 defeat of Hereford by Arsenal at Highbury in 1985.
After watching the video supporter Peter Clifton contacted Matt to thank him for putting the video on BN.
'I was one of many travelling on the football special trains from Hereford for the replay.
I recall the trains reached the outskirts of London in plenty of time but then took an age to reach Highbury. I suspect some of the racist taunts from some Hereford fans to BR West Indian and Asian staff on station platforms did nothing to speed our journey.
The bad old days of the 80s. Felt ashamed to be a Hereford fan hearing it.
We reached the station alongside the ground 30 minutes after scheduled ko.
Fans rushed off the train.
“No need to hurry, the ko is delayed until all Hereford fans are safely in the ground”, was the police tannoy announcement.
We were told to take our time.
As we neared the ground a cheer went up.
“ Must be the teams coming out”, the chap alongside me suggested.
“ Teams coming out ? Hah, that’s Arsenal’s fourth just gone in”, said a young PC nearby.
They had of course kicked off as scheduled and the announcement had been a lie (well intentioned perhaps)
Then to add to the misery the train home had no lights and no heating. Still, we were only football fans (the train carriages to Middlesbrough in January 77 were another low point!)
British Rail offered free travel to Aldershot on last day of season as compensation for their abysmal treatment of fans that night.I passed this up. The season was dead. Hereford had blown promotion already by then.
First time I’ve seen those first four Arsenal goals!
Keep up the good work. Love watching the old clips. Happy memories.'
