One Hereford supporter has donated £1,000 to help Merthyr Town pay their outstanding tax bill, which forced the club to slash its playing budget.
It's reported 80% of players left the club as a result, and manager Gavin Williams had little option but to field a development side in Saturday's 13-1 defeat at Chesham.
But Jason Jones, who donated the sum, says he did so because he knows what Merthyr are going through.
He said: "I've followed Hereford from 1975, seen not good times in the early days with re-election due to the football league, then a dream to be given a contract as a YTS lad under John Newman and Alan Ashman.
"But enough about that - I've seen our club go through turmoil like Merthyr, so I just thought I’d send a few quid that might help out."
Radio Hereford FC's Frank Williams, commercial director George Webb and Hereford Awaydays organiser Reg Reynolds have also aided the crowdfunding effort.
So far, £8,267 has been raised. The initial target was much lower than this, and any fans wishing to donate can do so here - https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mtfc-2017appeal
Meanwhile, fans met at the Park View pub last night to discuss the situation.
A meeting of the club's owners is set to take place tonight.
