Crude, Reckless, Rash Challenges And The Referee Did Nothing Said Beadle

In his post match interview after the 2-2 draw at Tiverton, Hereford manager Peter Beadle was critical of both the rough way Tiverton play and the fact that referee didn't deal deal with it.

"It's tough because they do it well. Crude at times but that's the way they want to play.

"I thought we coped with it brilliantly. I thought the lads were magnificent tonight.

"I thought first half we could have been out of sight with Jamie and John if they had put their chances away but they were there to get them but unfortunately it didn't quite fall for us tonight.

"We fell asleep once and it cost us a penalty. Jimmy got caught with his man on the inside of him when it should have been the other way round. Then Jimmy does great to get back in and defend against him but then dithers a little bit in his clearance and catches the lad and we get caught out by just falling asleep.

"Then we get ourselves 2-1 up and again we have a funny couple of minutes and they hit the post as we weren't switched on.

"Aside of that they've not caused us a problem. We've had to work hard because of the way they play and how crude as it is. Obviously second half going up the slope and going into the wind a little bit we've had to work a bit harder.

"And I think we had to work doubly hard because I don't think we were helped by the officials tonight.

"I think some of the challenges out there were crude, reckless, rash, brutal at times and the referee did nothing about it.

"Their 10 barges into Macca on the halfway line not a foul. Two seconds later Greeny goes into the side of the 10 and it is a foul. What's the difference?"

Interviewer Keith Hall felt there was a lack of consistency by the referee. What did Beadle make of McGrath's red card (two yellows)?

McGrath Walks Off The Pitch After His Red Card
"Apparantly the referee said that he had warned Jimmy that if any of our players got in his face pointed at him again he would send them off. McGrath was ten yards away and said I had a pop at the referee that it wasn't a foul in the first place. How can you give it when you are so far away. You were 60 yards away how could you give it. And he booked him and said that's dissent.

"Bear in mind all night their players were getting around the referee, they're in there pulling at him and having a go at him trying to get our players booked but for us for whatever reason he deemed it was a second yellow card which I think was harsh. There's no way we can do anything about it, we're just going to suffer now and he's going to have to miss a game."

Tiverton have only lost one game at home so far.

"We were brilliant, we were fantastic, we deserved to win the game. A lapse in concentration for their first goal. We should have been four up at half-time.

"Second half was always going to be tough going up the slope into the wind, we coped with it great, they didn't cause us any real threat.

"We caused a few ourselves giving away silly fouls in and around the box. Even then we blocked and we got bodies in the way and it was just a shame the goal (Tiverton's second) comes from a free kick that even the linesman said to Jimmy wasn't a foul because he never touched him, he was already falling over. So why didn't the linesman put his flag up and do something about it?

"I can't have a pop at the boys because they've been fantastic, especially against a team and the way they play.

"It suits them, they've got big players in their side, they work that way, they don't really want to pass the ball, they want to get the ball in the final third quickly, they want to get balls in the box because they feel they have a physical advantage."
