Youngsters Help Hereford Defeat Lads Club

Mike Symons Score Twice For Hereford
Hereford FC played their second pre-season friendly this evening, this one close-by at Lads Club and with a squad full of youngsters came away with a 6-1 victory.

Before the start of the game two former Hereford United players, Kevin Sheedy and Ian Rodgerson, cut the ribbon on Lads Club's new stand. The club also has new floodlights. Much of the grant money for these projects was sourced by Dan Chance at the HFA.

As promised by manager Peter Beadle, Hereford started the game with ten of the eleven who finished last night's game with youngster Max Harris in goal.

Whilst it was a dry and bright evening in contrast to that at Wulfrunians, the pitch was nowhere near the standard of that of last night.

Hereford started brightly and after ten minutes took the lead through Mike Symons. He collected on the ball on the left, passed several defender, and planted the ball to the right of the Lads Club keeper.

Next to score was Rob Purdie who captained the starting XI. George Hayes was brought down just outside the box and Purdie's free kick floated over the head of Symons and crept into the goal.

Beadle didn't make any changes at half-time and on the 47th minute Dan Pugh made it 3-0 with a left footed shot from outside the box.

Five minuted later it was Jamie Molyneux's turn to score as the former Westfields player slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper.

On 60 minutes Beadle took off all the 'senior' players and brought on seven more youngsters.

Just afterwards Harry Franklin was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and the Lads Club number four scored from the penalty.

Not to be outdone on the 70th minute Hereford scored their sixth of the game. This time it was Hayes with a cracking effort.

Another couple of subs followed and for the final part of the game Hereford's youngsters played with a lot of determination and were unlucky not to add to the score line.

Around 250 watched the game.
