Another tough game, it's absolutely fair to say they are streets ahead of anyone in this league, to catch them on a day when they wanted to celebrate winning the title and presented the trophy, made it tougher than it already would have been.
Crowd of over 4000 and an experience for our players that will hopefully inspire us for next season. Very last thing we need is one of the worst penalty decisions I've seen in a long time in first few minutes, so much so that our superb band of supporters high up in the stand gave the stewards a piece of their minds I believe!
To be fair our response was decent and we played some decent football, carving out a fantastic chance with a flowing move ending with Briggo crossing and a combination of Howard and their defender touched the ball and it cannoned off the bar, more rotten luck!
They went quickly up the other end and scored a 2nd with a quick break while we were on the attack, this left us 2-0 down at the break after a decent effort from he lads.
Second half was always likely to be hard for us, they were intent to just attack and get more and more goals. We had to withstand that and we gave it a go with some decent attacks but in reality we were far too open and they scored a third from a header from a corner and a fourth was another header from a cross from their excellent right back Oates.
To be honest it was a very hard game against a side who has set a record for points in Southern League and also a crowd that is higher than any other in Southern League history as well!
Today was tough to take but equally a great example to show what it takes to be champions, they were excellent on and off the ball and worked just as hard to get the ball back. Massive thanks to our brilliant supporters once again, despite the result they were superb.
Roll on the new season, to say I'm excited about it is an understatement and you will see a squad and a team to be excited about that's for sure.
Up the citizens!
