During the 1995/1996 season the Bulls faced Neil Warnock's Plymouth Argyle. Relegated from the league above the previous campaign, and with the financial backing of Dan Macauley the Pilgrims were tipped to win the league.

After a brilliant end of season run,the Bulls ended up losing in the Play Off Semi Finals to Darlington,who ended up beating Graham Turner's men four times that season. Plymouth then subsequently beat Darlington 1-0 in the final at Wembley.
