6th December 1997 - Colchester 1-1 Hereford
With revenge achieved over Brighton. Next up was a trip to Layer Road, the then home of Colchester United. Former Bulls loanee David Gregory put the U'S ahead, but Graham Turner's men equalised with a well worked goal courtesy of Neil Grayson. The footage can be viewed here.

16th December 1997 - Replay, Hereford 1-1 Colchester (Hereford win 5-4 on pens)
The replay at a very cold Edgar Street, saw the visitors take the lead early in the 2nd half through Steve Forbes. Then a minute later Neil Grayson equalised after a cross from Chris Hargreaves. The game went to penalties and after 9 successful conversions. The Hereford goalkeeper Andy deBont was again the FA Cup hero, saving from the U'S Simon Betts. Cue wild celebrations in the Meadow End, and a home tie against John Aldridge's Tranmere in the next round.
