It is with great sadness that BN reports that ex-Hereford United player Tony Byrne has passed away, his nephew Dan McCabe has said in a tweet.
Left-back Byrne made 55 appearances for the Bulls in his 3 years at the club, joining Terry Paine at Hereford in 1974 after 10 years at Southampton. In 1977 he moved to Newport County where he ended his playing career.
Between 1969 and 1973 he won 14 Irish caps and after retiring from football, according to Wikipedia, he worked as a foreman at Hereford golf course.
