Morpeth manager Nicky Grey has watched Hereford on numberous occasions recently in the lead up to Sunday's FA Vase finals and admits that they are favourites to win.
“We’ve got nothing to lose. If we come back with the cup it will be a massive achievement.
“We’ve been to see them nine or ten times but I’m not sure they know a great deal about us.
“They’re canny. They’re a decent football side but they go back-to-front quite a bit. They’ve won the treble in their local leagues but we’re not going there in fear.
“Hereford have got full-timers and ambitions to go higher, and that’s great for them. They won’t be in the Vase next year (they will be too high up the football pyramid) so this is their one shot at it.
“They’ll have more people at the game, but everyone in the town is buzzing for us.”
Like Hereford manager Peter Beadle, Grey will have the difficult task of telling some players they will not be in the squad for the game.
“I’ve got 22 players to pick from, so six of them are not going to be involved on matchday. It’s going to be a difficult choice for me, but I genuinely believe I’ve given them all an opportunity to show what they can do.
“I don’t think it’s a problem for the players involved, it’s the ones that aren’t I’m concerned about. We don’t want any bad vibes around the place.
“I’m really not sure when the best time to tell people is. We will probably do it some time on Saturday.
“Whatever team me and Dave pick, it will be because
we think it’s the right one. If we win, we’ll be proved right, if not,
we’ll have got it wrong.”
