Fantastic Win Against A Very Good Side Said Beadle

Hereford FC defeated Walsall Wood 2-1 this evening and manager Peter Beadle felt it had been a 'fantastic win against a very good side'.

"Earlier in the season I thought we caught them on an off day and we played extremely well and the result probably flattered us 6-0 at their place.

"So I think they came better prepared for the game and with intentions to try and get their own back, their revenge.

"I thought we laboured through the first half a little bit, we couldn't quite get the tempo right but second half, we asked them to up it and show a bit more desire and a bit more passion and to run harder than they were running and to work harder than they were working.

"And I said to them that was why the supporters had gone quiet because they had seen something tonight we haven't seen for a little while where a team have shown a bit more desire, a bit  more hunger to drive on and they caused us problems.

"I was disappointed with the goal. For their part it was well worked but the cross was too easy into the box and the header was too free at the far post. When it comes like that with defenders in the box we should be throwing ourselves in the way to block it at all costs.

"Second half we asked them to up the tempo, there was more passion, more desire, be braver to get on the ball. The pitch was bobbly so for  players to get on the ball is hard work for them.

"But second half I thought we were fantastic, we pinned them back pretty much for the whole half, they rarely ventured into our half.

"On another day with a different goalkeeper we could have had a few more. I thought their keeper was outstanding with some of the saves he pulled off.

"But we got a result and we did it well  and that breeds confidence to go into Thursday."

Man of the match Sirdic Grant played on the right wing this evening.

"Sid came in on the right and has done extremely well tonight and the two midfielders did better second half and got themselves into better areas of the pitch.

"And Pablo found a nice pocket of space and managed to tuck one away, a good team goal.

"A lot of them have been patient this year, they've had to be and I keep saying to them now that it is about the bigger picture, not the individual. So many games to go in a short space of time. It's vital that everybody will play a part and everybody needs to be focused.

"Sid's been more patient than most, like Robbo, tonight Sid got a chance.

"We been looking for someone to play on the right hand side. Ross came in and started great and hasn't quite matched that recently, Joe very similar, James Bowen could play this side.

"But we thought it was a good time to give Side a chance at home and he didn't let us down. Hopefully he'll be fresh and ready to go on Thursday."

Mike Symons scored Hereford's first goal.

"He does too much work sometimes, that probably sounds ridiculous coming from a manager, but I ask him to do a certain amount and to play to his strengths. And his strengths are to play between the widths of the box.

"Sometimes you see him going out wide and I'm not going to stop him doing it when it happens but there are times when he's goes too wide and we need him to be in the middle.

"The amount of chances he set up second half from the middle of the box into his feet and he shields it and he lays it off for people, that's where we need him.

"If he comes out wide and crosses it who is going to head it in because he's the biggest one we've got. We need him in the box to be more of a threat and more of a danger. Second half he did it much much better.

"He takes people by surprise because Mike is such a big lad, he's more mobile than people thought. But it doesn't surprise me a bit, we've seen what we can do all year so far.

"I'm glad he got a goal tonight, that's taken him to almost 20 now. "
