Beadle Explains Changes In Defence At Long Eaton

Jamie Laird Meets The Officals
The Hereford back four selected by Peter Beadle last night at Long Eaton were a 'new combination'.

Jamie Laird partnered Jamie Willets with Ryan Green on the right and Joel Edwards in his usual position of left back. Jimmy Oates was rested.

"Jimmy felt a twinge in his back on Saturday which was why he came off and with the travelling distance we got although he felt better I think two hours on the bus here to play the game and then two and a half, three hours going back he would have felt awful tomorrow and we've got a big game on Saturday as well.

"So we decided to leave him out tonight. We've got players versatile enough, Ryan stepped across and did a fantastic job at right back.

"Jamie has come in for his full debut and done a very accomplished performace at the back along side Jamie (Willets) . A new partnership, a little bit wobbly at times but first time they've played together properly, but I thought they both did extremely well, competed physically superbly.

"Jamie Laird has shown he wants to play and has that quality to play, he's played all his football in Leagues above where we are so you'd like to think he can add to the group.

"I thought the back five were as solid as we've looked so really pleased with them."

John Mills' first goal was the 100th of Hereford's season.

"I suppose for him it is great that he got the 100th goal, he started it all off back in August at Dunkirk and he's got the 100th tonight.

"We've tried to be attacking and tried to play with a certain style and flair which is attacking and open minded which is to create goals and score goals and to get a 100th after 33 games or whatever it is is phenominal and that's credit to the players who has taken on board what we've tried to do.

"We've brought in some very creative players for the club, they've created lots of chances and you go through every game and watch the video of the chances we've missed we should have 150 by now!

"But also on the flip side we have the second of third best defensive record in the league as well. For me that is probably even more pleasing because we need to make sure we stay tight and resilient throughout the season.

"And we've still got ten league games to go."
