One Cup Competition Too Many?

This coming Tuesday evening Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle has to take a squad of players to Highgate for a Midland League Cup tie.

Should Hereford win the match, then they will be in the semi-final of the competition which is a two legged affair.

Given that the club already has to play two games a week to complete its current fixtures, the possibility of an appearance in the FA Vase final at Wembley, the HFA County Cup Final and, above all, try and win promotion, there has to be a view that Tuesday's game isn't quite at the top of the club's priorities.

Of course it would send the wrong message out not to play a reasonably strong squad on Tuesday but Beadle will want to ensure he has a fresh and fit group of players ready to take on Salisbury at Edgar Street next Saturday.

The Midland League has recognised the importance of the FA Vase to Hereford by allowing the club to move the scheduled fixture at Continental Star, which was to be March 16th, to another date, Wednesday April 13th, so that the club has a free week to prepare for the second leg at Salisbury.

So what about Tuesday?

"It's another game, we're on the road again," Beadle told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"So it will give us a chance to use the squad we've got and get some of those who didn't play at Loughborough back on the pitch.

"Hopefully we can go there and give a good account of ourselves and give a good performance on the pitch."
