Beadle Pleased With Character Of Players

Hereford FC won their FA Vase Tie at Hartley Wintney 4-1 this afternoon and afterwards manager Peter Beadle said as well as being pleased with the win he was particularily pleased with how his players coped given the difficult conditions.

"I'm even more pleased with the character of the players in conditions that were not great for either team," said Beadle.

"I thought we showed real good character, real passion and desire and it wasn't going to be always about getting it down and playing like we try to if we can.

"It was more about making sure we won individual battles across the pitch and fought and battled and scraped for every little chance that we had. I thought we did that.

"As the game went on I thought we got stronger and stronger.

"Two early goals in the second half helped but we looked strong throughout and barring a few long throws and corners they never really troubled us.

"And even when we did, we dealt with it quite well."

Hereford took the lead in the half-time.

"At 1-0 down in any game you are always in with a chance and even at 2-0 you can be in with a chance.

"We said at half time we must protect against them scoring and not start complacent.

"But our players came out, rolled their sleeves up and then to score two goals as quickly as we did was perfect. We couldn't have asked for much more."

Mustapha Bundu scored two of Hereford goals.

"It was nice for him to join in, I've been on his case a little bit lately.

"He tends to drift and flow and that's how he is all the time.

"We've asked for more end product from him, we thought Alvechurch his finishing wasn't quite there.

"But today it was, he's cut inside and they were two good finishes. He'll be happy with his performance."

Mike Symons scored Hereford's second goal.

"We were wondering what took him so long to push it into the net because he seemed to take forever with it.

"He said he couldn't quite get it out from under his feet.

"Mike's got great qualities, he isn't just a big man, he's does that job extremely well and he can play.

"I'm glad he's got his goal today.

"It would have been nice for John (Mills) to get a goal as well because I thought his workrate was phenomenal today. His performance was outstanding from start to finish up there on his own to start with.

"I thought he was tireless with his running and very unselfish for the team so it would have been nice for him to get one and round it off.

"It wasn't to be today, so maybe next week will be his day.

"But Simmo has great qualities and we're delighted to have him here with us."
