We Want To Stay At Edgar Street Says Chairman Jon Hale

After tonight's Hereford FC AGM, chairman Jon Hale kindly spoke to BN.

"A very positive meeting despite the results of the accounts which were only two months trading," said Hale.

"It was nice to see the shareholders and give them an opportunity to ask a few questions and get to know them a bit better."

The situation with the leases was discussed at the meeting.

"Obviously we want to start some discussions with the Council. Certainly we would be looking for an extension to the lease. Timewise we want to sit down with them and talk to them on a level and just see what they envisage in terms of what happens here.

"If we could get an extension of twenty five years I think we will be absolutely delighted .

"We want to stay at Edgar Street. This is the home of Hereford FC and lets try and get a bit of security over our future in terms of the confidence to spend a bit of money."

Would a gate of 4,000 on Boxing Day help to sway the Council?

"Well I hope so, the Council are obviously nervous at the end of Hereford United's days because they went through a difficult period and they needed to build the trust in us.

"We came up with a business plan which was very prudent and conservative looking back now. We had to make sure that we were realistic and we were.

"But everybody can see what has happened, the attendances have been absolutely incredible, over 2500 as an average and potentially over 4000 here Boxing Day.

"There's a lot going on around the club on a Saturday or Tuesday night, the traders in the city are pleased they've got this extra business on match days.

"There's families coming back to the ground, the place is really buzzing, there's a real momentum about the place and as I've said tonight at the AGM, I can only thank the supporters for that."

Weston Cider and the club announced a sponsorship deal this morning.

"It's an excellent deal for the football club. It's a great name. It's a name that synonymous with football being played at Edgar Street.

"Delighted to have them on board and yes it's bound to strike a chord with the Council and other people.

"These companies they don't spend money easily and just don't fling themselves at sponsorship deals. You have to build that trust, believe you are going in the right direction and believe you are on a forward journey and we believe we are and they believe we are.

"So when you get the likes of Jewsons and Westons it gives you real confidence that you are doing things right."

Finally the FA Vase draw earlier today will see Leicester Nirvana visit Hereford.

"It's going to be a cracking game, they have got a very similar record to us.

"I commented earlier that it's going to feel like the FA Cup because it's early January, hopefully a good frosty day.

"They are going very well in their league and I believe the United Counties League is a very strong league so to be topping that league with the record they've got means they are a good side who score goals just like we are.

"It's another home game, hopefully another good attendance and let's hope we can get through and take another step towards Wembley."
