Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle has blamed budget constraints for the fact that he's had to let Tony James go to be able to bring in Ryan Green.
"We had a few e-mails and text messages on Thursday after training then when I got back in the car about the possibility that we may be able to have Ryan," said Beadle.
"So the first thing was to ring Steve (Jenkins - manager of Merthyr), this has been a tough one because of that. Steve is one of my best friends.
"I rang him and spoke to him and he was very honest about it and gave us permission to speak to him.
"Then within sixteen hours it was done and dusted.
"I think Ryan has got better with age. He's been involved with a winning team. Last season he was captain at Merthyr and won the League.
"Downside to that is that with one coming in we've had to let one go and so we've had to lose Tony.
"In an ideal world it would be been great to keep them both but where we are with our budget at the moment that doesn't allow that."
