The role of a football secretary doesn't really kick in until the season proper.
So apart from paying the referee and assistants, Hereford FC's Martin Watson sold tickets, answered queries and sorted teething problems.
Later he spoke to BN about the day.

The
bars were also very busy and it was a good experience that seems to
have been well liked by supporters. James and his team came at this late
on and have done a great job in getting the bars ready. He inherited a
stripped out cellar, and had to get the brewery in to put new equipment
in there and new lines in to all the bars.
Sky
Sports will be installed just as soon as Sky finalise a deal they've
offered to clubs in Steps 5 and 6. We've been told that'll be done in
the first week of August so we hope to have it in place for the first
home League game.
The
club shop was in the compound part of the car park and did phenomenal
trade. I don't know exactly how much Will and his team sold but there
were boxes and boxes of empty hangers at the end. I'm sure they'll be
ordering more stock in as soon as possible.
There
were a few little teething problems, most of us haven't done this
before and supporters of both sides were really patient and
understanding. We had to improvise a couple of times to make things work
for people. Unfortunately we had to decline the request in one phone
call on Saturday morning to allow his dog in as they're not on the
Safety Certificate!
On
the Safety Certificate, we've had a few people query the large numbers
of empty seats in the Merton Stand considering it was badged as sold
out. Unfortunately the access walkways and stairwells are now considered
to be a bit too narrow so we've lost about a fifth of the capacity in
the stand. If there's an emergency, everyone has to be evacuated in a
certain time. Our capacity there is the number of people that can get
out in good time. On the bright side, the repairs and upgrades we've
done to the terracing means we've gained most of the overall capacity
back there.
