Hereford FC vice-chairman Chris Williams was full of praise for the West Bromwich under 21's who deated Hereford FC 6-0 in this evening's friendly at Edgar Street.
"Tonight was against a West Bromwich Albion side who I think if they were playing in the Conference would win it hands down," Williams told BN.
"The Hereford team were a young side which lacked the experience of Saturday with two senior players missing and it showed.
"But there were signs that there is some cohesion coming together and I think it is promising.
"Disappointing to lose by a score like that but signs of promise, early days and a long way to go.
"I was amazed by the crowd tonight of over 1800 for a friendly. Again it proves that the fans have a real appetite for football in Herefordshire.
"A real treat to come and watch a floodlight game. I've always liked floodlight football."
BN asked Williams about the capacity of the ground.
"I was annoyed I couldn't get it over 5,000.
"It's all to do with the way the ground is calculated, not all the seats can be filled all the time.
"Part of the problem with our stadium especially the Len Weston is that it is very steep so what we've done is recalculated all the spaces.
"We've increased the capacity of the Meadow End by a couple of hundred, we increased the capacity in the standing area of the Len Weston for the home fans but we've got some restrictions in the Main Stand as there are some pinch points because of the narrowness of the exits.
"So the capacity is nearly 5,000 (4913) and for where we are that's great.
"My work is to continue to look at work to increase the capacity but at the same time making sure it is safe.
"As you can see tonight with 1800, five minutes after the game has finished the stadium is empty."
BN raised the point that the canteen under the main stand where the St John's Ambulance staff used to be is a bit small.
"I think we've got to look at the catering. We had to make the best of what we had got when we started so they will be ways to try and improve that.
"The stadium is a real asset to us because it gives us the ability to make the club sustainable. The negative side is that we've got to keep it up to scratch, keep it maintained, look after it and we are going to do that.
"That's part of the trick of running a sustainable club, it's a balance. But we will make sure things improve throughout the season."
