Hitchin Town have announced that they have negotiated a new 25 year lease on their Top Field stadium.
The site had been under threat from a supermarket development, but the trustees of the charity that owns the land have now agreed a new 25 year lease and removed the clause that would enable development against the club's will.
A club statement adds: 'The management committee of HTFC would like to thank everybody who supported our Save Top Field Campaign and in particular those who attended the protest march.
There is no doubt the message the march sent out was instrumental in affecting the decisions of Tesco and Richard Daniels. The way the whole community came together to support our club in its hour of need has been quite humbling and has only increased the resolve of all our officials to move on to stage two of the campaign which is to build a modern stadium at Top Field that the Hitchin community can be proud of.'
The club are to now launch a fundraising drive to improve the ground, calling the facilities 'no longer acceptable'.
The HUST Fans Team visits Top Field on Saturday, April 25th in a "Pay what you want" fundraising game for both sides. Bulls legend Ricky George will manage the Fans Team with former World Cup referee Graham Poll coming out of retirement to ref the match. The FA's chief of discipline, Mark Ives, will also be one of the linesmen.
