Jon Hale, chairman of Hereford FC, reflects on the meeting at Wembley earlier today.
Jon, who made the journey to London with Hereford United Supporters Trust Vice Chairman, Martin Watson, has this evening given a brief overview of some of the discussions that took place.
“Travelling to Wembley to meet Mike Appleby face-to-face was definitely the right thing to do and we’re very grateful for the time Mike gave us. There is no doubt in my mind that the trip was extremely worthwhile.
“We were able to explain exactly what we are aiming to achieve with Hereford FC and Martin and I both felt that Mike received our plans well. We were very impressed with how much knowledge he has of the recent history at Edgar Street and all that has gone on over the past few years.
“We talked at length about the huge potential we feel the club has and the size of the crowds we hope to attract. We also discussed the need to ensure that at least three sides of the ground are open for supporters and all agreed this was important. Mike told us that he understands why we are keen to enter Hereford FC in the highest possible league that regulations will allow and can also see how many away fans might travel to support the team.
“He encouraged us to keep collecting messages of support and explained that the more evidence of the potential the club has the better when it comes to applying to the FA and including supporting documents.
“Today’s visit to Wembley and our conversations with Mike have only served to give us even more confidence that Hereford FC can become a real success story if we can secure the lease for Edgar Street from Herefordshire Council.
“Our belief that Hereford FC can be of huge benefit to the city way beyond the football field has also been reaffirmed by our meeting today and we sincerely hope the local authority will see that when we formally present our Expression of Interest for Edgar Street.
“I’ve said many times of late, but all I keep thinking is, ‘Let’s make it happen’.”
