I Share Fans Concerns Said Council Leader

Leader of the Herefordshire Council Tony Johnson has spoken about the leases at Edgar Street.

"As an individual I share the concerns of all the fans," Johnson told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"There's nothing I would like more than to see football continue at Edgar Street.

"The leases contain with them conditions that if any development takes place at either end of the ground and profit accrues from that development, that profit has to be ploughed back into the sporting facility, the football club.

"That's irrespective of who the owner is, that's a condition of the lease that applied to the previous owners and would apply to any subsequent owner.

"If development takes place at either end then any profit would have to be ploughed back into the club.

"You couldn't go in there and just sort of asset strip the place, sell the ends off and take a lot of money and just walk away."

Johnson was then asked if the owners were in breach of the lease because they owe £65K to the Council

"I'm not a lawyer, but I imagine they may be, however we have had contact from solicitors acting for the new owner to say they wish to bring their arrears with the Council up to date.

"We responded and said we would like such an assurance in writing and they said they were very happy to do that.

"That correspondence is in the process of being produced and I got a meeting set up to meet the new owner, Mr Agombar, on Monday and then I'll know more."
